What Size Does My Dog Wear?

Shopping for a belly band and not sure what size to get? You’re not alone. Measuring your dog might not be the most glamorous part of the process—but it’s the key to getting a great fit.

Here’s how to measure like a pro:

🐾 Step 1: Grab a soft measuring tape (or a string and ruler will do in a pinch).

Wrap it around your dog’s waist, right across the business end of his genitals. You’re measuring where the belly band will actually sit.

🐾 Step 2: Make it snug—but leave a little room for comfort.

You want the tape to feel like a secure hug—not too tight, not too loose. Most people use a pad inside the belly band, so give a little bit of wiggle room to account for that. No need to overthink it—just avoid measuring skin-tight.

🐾 Step 3: Round up to the next whole inch.

If your dog measures 14.25 inches, order a 15. If he's 16.75 inches, go with a 17. When in doubt, up is better than down.

Wait—what does the size actually mean?

The number you order corresponds to your dog’s waist measurement, not the total length of the belly band. That’s an important distinction!

Belly bands include hook and loop fasteners (aka Velcro) on each end. So the actual band will be longer than the waist size you selected—on purpose! The extra length is part of the closure system and helps you get a secure fit.

Quick Recap:

  • Measure around the waist, near the genitals
  • Snug fit, with a bit of room for the pad
  • Round up to the next inch
  • Order that number
